Do you know someone who would enjoy these weekly ruminations? If so, please share my page with them. I’m hopeful you will shower your friends with the joy you find in my writing and help me grow this space. Thank you!
Life is full of calves lately and so is the camera.
The rain holds me It taps at the corners of my heart Pulls on the threads of my memories Loosens the tears held tight in those hard to reach places The rain carries me Along fern lined trails winding through ancient redwoods Beside a flooded creek in the Kentucky wilderness Into the arms of a lover as our lips first meet The rain blesses me With the mingled scent of earth and sky Through light kisses upon my face In the magic of a single drop hanging on a leaf’s tip
The rain comforts me Through the rhythmic drumming upon the roof While striking chords among branches in the surrounding woods In its blanket wrapped about the earth The rain nourishes me Gently falling upon the garden Pulling the green grass up in the pastures Bringing songs to the tree frogs and peepers and birds The rain takes me To other times and other places Through layers of emotions and feelings Deeper into myself
However, I am really ready for sunny, dry days!
This Week On The Farm
Lettuce, cabbage, and kale were transplanted
Onion sets were planted next to the peas
More tomatoes and head lettuce were sown
Trudy had a heifer calf on Friday night (one week after Stormy’s bull calf)
We are knee deep in milk - this is really, really good
I made nearly a half gallon of butter with all of the cream I have been skimming (to eat and freeze)!
We ate homemade ice cream many, many times
We had a delightful time with friends that traveled across the country to stay with us for the solar eclipse (we fed them homemade ice cream!)
It won’t stop raining……the farm is a giant mud pit
Local Friends, you will find us at the Bloomington Community Farmer’s Market! Remember it starts at 8am! AND the sun will be shining!!!
We have an incredible harvest to share. On the table you will find lettuce mix, arugula, greens mix, spinach, radishes, carrots, salad turnips, maybe some green onions, frozen tomatoes, and some herb starts that want to move to your garden!
Thanks! I often love the rain too, but this heavy rain on top of 16 inches of snow two Thursdays ago almost floated us all away downstream. Sunny today, though!
